Baluarte: Fortress of defense and reconquest (Centuries of division between the Moro and Christians)


Historians, a Tausug scholar and an Augustinian priest tackle this period in Cebu/Visayas history– of Moro raids and building of Spanish fortifications.

Could the centuries of walls dividing the Moro and Christians be broken down?

A video on the baluarte/bantayan sa hari by Social Communications Asia will also be screened.

Cebu rappers/emcees will also bring out their best bars in an onsite Rap Contest with a theme on unity!

Panelists will be

-University of San Carlos’ Dr. Jobers Reynes Bersales
-Augustinian priest Fr. Arnel Dizon, OSA of the University of San Agustin and
-UP Diliman’s Muslim historian, Prof. Darwin Absari.

This blended event to be held at Palm Grass The Cebu Heritage Hotel is in partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, National Quincentennial Committee, Museo Sugbo, USC Department of Anthropology, Sociology and History, and Diyandi Heritage Center.
