The Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) takes over the functions of the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) in the Visayas beginning 20 March until 7 April 2021. This is in consideration of the sudden increase of COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.
OPAV Undersecretary Anthony Gerard Gonzales will represent the NQC Chairperson Salvador Medialdea and NQC Executive Director Rene Escalante in the unveilings of the historical markers in Eastern Visayas and Cebu Province. He will also represent President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on the 500th anniversary of the Easter Sunday Mass in Limasawa, Southern Leyte on 31 March 2021. OPAV also takes over the quincentennial coverage and documentation of Radio-Television Malacañang.
OPAV is a regular member of the NQC on behalf of the Visayas. The Visayan leg of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines (2021 QCP) will last on 4 May 2021 in Dumaguete City (or the 500th anniversary of the Negros part in the first circumnavigation of the world). Four big quincentennial events will happen in the Visayas: the beginning of the quincentennial in Suluan, Guiuan, Eastern Samar on 16 March, the 500th anniversary of the Easter Sunday Mass in Limasawa on 31 March, the DDay of the 500 Years of Christianity in Cebu City on 14 April, and the DDay of the 2021 QCP in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City on 27 April.
