President Duterte names the Chairperson of the NQC

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on 8 January 2019 designated Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea as chairperson of the National Quincentennial Committtee (NQC).
NQC was created by President Duterte through Executive Order No. 55 issued on 8 May 2018. The primary duty of the committee is to undertake the overall study, conceptualization, and implementation of programs and projects relevant to the quincentennial (500th anniversary) in 2021 of the Victory at Mactan, the introduction of Christianity in the Philippines, and the circumnavigation of the world. It also acts as the principal coordinator for all the activities of the government related to the quincentennial commemorations and serves as the clearing house for the preparation and dissemination of information concerning the plans and activities related to the quincentennial.
The committee is also mandated to constitute working groups which shall undertake the implementation of the programs and projects. It can also receive donations for the purpose of achieving the objectives of the Executive Order No. 55, subject to applicable laws, rules and regulations.
Other members of the NQC are National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairperson Rene Escalante as the committee’s vice-chairperson, Department of Budget and Management Undersecretary for Internal Audit & Special Concerns Agnes Joyce G. Bailen, Department of Tourism Undersecretary for Tourism Regulation, Coordination and Resource Generation Arturo P. Boncato, Jr., Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Strategic Communications and Research Ernesto C. Abella, Department of Interior and Local Government Undersecretary for Operations Epimaco V. Densing III, Department of Education Undersecretary for Finance-Budget and Performance Monitoring Annalyn M. Sevilla, Presidential Communications Operations Office Undersecretary and Philippine Information Agency Director-General Harold E. Clavite, Department of Public Works and High Ways Region VII Director Edgar B. Tabangon, and Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines Secretary-General Fr. Marvin S. Mejia.
